I am now in the final phase of my thesis research, which will be presented the 13th of August in Dübendorf, after that I promise to write a complete review of my experience as a trainee from the beginning to the end and of course from now try to give you as much as possible information from the day to day work in a real control tower directly from Locarno!!
During my training on the job in Locarno, I did not write anything about it but after an hard training on 12th July 2014, I got my license! Since then I worked alone in the tower (actually with not a lot of traffic due to weather) but the feeling is amazing. This job can give you such a satisfaction and every morning you wake up with the intentions to give your best for our number one priority, SAFETY!

In the last post I've mentioned about my first solo flight, so the last week we planned some flights around Switzerland and also abroad. First of all we planned a nice triangle between Locarno-Bergamo-Samedan but first the availability of parking in Orio and than the weather, did not match our idea. At the end we took the P28A Archer (HB-PHT) and all four we fly over Buochs, Bern and back to Locarno. It was my first Alps flight and this experience was beautiful with such wonderful panorama. The leg from Bern to Locarno was very nice, we overfly the Susten pass and also the Gothard pass and than fly over all Ticino to see the two Bellinzona's castle from 2000 ft ;-) before a straight in approach on runway 26R. The other day we try again our plan to fly from Bergamo to Samedan, but the weather did not help us, in fact we just fly to Bergamo Orio al Serio, a big hub for Ryanair. The first leg was through Lugano and than Lake of Como, the ATCO were very friendly and I did a straight in approach to runway 10 after a B737 of Ryanair just departed from runway 28, after the payment of the taxes we just departed again towards SRN VOR, Chiasso, Lugano and back to Locarno in a perfect sunny day. As mentioned in my previous post, we started last week our VFR training around all over Switzerland. The airports are: Grenchen (LSZG); Sion (LSGS), Les Eplatures (LSGC) and Locarno (LSZL). I'm in Locarno with Simon and Patricia and our first week was very good, we had the opportunity to fly every day, thanks god the weather was nice with only some fog or low winds from the North. The first week was also for me a small re-introduction to fly and make some basic exercise with the P28A Warrior II in order to get the necessary skills for the next weeks. During the free time we had to learn as soon as possible, the check-list, very important during our flights, however we had great time to visit the Airbase of Locarno and our collogues in Locarno Tower with some beautiful views! Next week we are expected to start with more circuits and more touch and go's, let's hope for a nice weather! AeroLocarno PA-28-161 Warrior II - HB-PHH at Locarno From Monday 28th January and for more or less four weeks we are going to have out VFR training offered by Skyguide. On this time we can see the difficulties of pilots and put on practice all the theory about the aerodynamics, aircraft performances, ect. My VFR training will be done in Locarno-Magadino (LSZL) together with other two classmates, we will be instruct by the local Flying School AeroLocarno and fly with P28A - HB-PHH & HB-PHT for about 20 flying hours, on this time we will be able to have a complete instruction about how to fly VFR. In the next days I hope to get time and post some interesting pictures and video about this new phase of our ATCO training at Skyguide, attached to this post you can find some nice material that can be find in the AeroLocarno website, about the checklist and cockpit configuration of the PA28.
